I’m so bored and hot I’m stuck to the couch.
There’s just nothing for me to do over the holidays. The little kids have got the playgrounds and all their Christmas toys. The older ones can hook up with someone and drive around a bit – that would have to be better. They get in trouble with the police sometimes for speeding and doing wheelies out the back of town but nothing serious happens to them. When they’ve got their mum or dad’s car they just send them home and tell them to put the car back in one piece. Sometimes I think they have a drink or two, you know, just for fun. I don’t think they get blotto or anything though.
But me… I’m stuck in the house ’cause it’s so hot and mum won’t let me swim in the river. She thinks that’s where the wild Aboriginal kids go and she doesn’t want me mixing with that lot. I’d love to have a go at swinging into the water on that rope … just once even. The tele helps a bit but I’ve seen most of it before and there’s no new DVDs. My friends are away on holidays. Anyone with money goes away on holidays in the summer. Julie’s gone to the snow in Japan. How mad’s that! She’s gonna find me melted when she gets back. I can’t read good and I don’t like books really either. I could cook but mum complains that I’m getting fat and nags about me eating too much rubbish. I like cooking cakes and yummy sweet stuff.
So I just sit here … bored … bored … bored …
